The Art
Why Taekwondo?
So Many Styles
We get it — the world of Taekwondo can feel a little confusing, with so many styles, rules, and uniforms. In general, you'll find three main types of Taekwondo:
International Taekwondo Federation
The original style, founded in 1955 by General Choi Hong Hi, known as "The Founder of Taekwondo."
World Taekwondo
Sometimes called Kukkiwon or Olympic Taekwondo. This is the style you see at the Olympic Games.
Spin-off Styles
Various spin-off styles that have branched from the main federations over the years.
At Kickin'It Taekwondo, we primarily teach ITF, the style founded in 1955 by General Choi Hong Hi. This means your rank is recognised worldwide, and you'll have opportunities to join tournaments, seminars, and events at every level.
Choosing the Right Martial Art
Picking a martial art can feel overwhelming — there are so many options! Here's our take: all martial arts are amazing for self-development, fitness, and confidence. The most important thing is finding the one that feels right for you.
We recommend choosing a martial art you can do with your friends or family — it's way more fun when you're in it together.
At Kickin'It Taekwondo, we don't profess to be "better" than other clubs. What we do offer is:
Give It a Go!
We encourage you to come try a class, see how you feel, and decide at your own pace. No pressure, no pushy sales pitch — just great training and a community that's happy to welcome you.
